Hai Van pass - near Danang

Hai Van Pass

Hai Van Pass is one of the most spectacular mountain pass in Vietnam, with a height of about 500 meters above sea level, hanging over Truong Son mountain range reached the sea. The name of Hai Van means the world of sea and clouds.

In 2005, Hai Van Tunnel opened, with 6280m long and shaving an hour off the journey between Danang and Hue, the motorcyclists and cyclists are not permitted to ride through the tunnel. Of course the tunnel saves time, but not to be missed the views from Hai Van pass.

Hai Van Pass is winding along the mountainside, like a ribbon between sky and clouds, creating the illusory scenery. Over Hai Van pass, leaned on each curve, you will feel anxious when downhill, even hair-raising if encountered rain or dim fog.

- On nice days, you can clearly see the panorama of Da Nang city, Tien Sa port, Son Tra peninsula... and the sands stretching, embrace the vast blue sea.

If you cross in winter, Hai Van Pass serves as something of a visible dividing line between the climates of the north and south, protecting Danang from the fierce winds that sweep in from the northeast. From about November to March, the exposed north side of the pass can be wet and chilly, while just to the south it’s often warm and dry.
