Cham Sculpture Museum Danang

Founded in 1915, Cham Museum Danang is the largest museum of Cham sculpture in Vietnam, with a collection of nearly 500 Cham artefacts on display.

Outside, Cham Museum Danang was designed in Gothic architecture, adorned with Plumeria flowers. Inside, the sculptures are arranged by period, which are in turn named after the geographic regions where the sculptures were found. This layout helps visitors easily recognized the characteristic features of Cham architecture in each area.

The Cham sculpture including Altars, Shiva, Brahma, Vishnu and the mascot sculptures or daily life scenes carved elaborately... all dating from the 5th to 15th centuries. Most of the sculpture, are the original works with three main materials as sandstone, terracotta and copper; very diverse of artistic styles, shapes, carvings.

The centuries passed, the sculpture still proudly exist until today. Each sculpture in Cham Museum Danang, is attached to a story about its dynasty. Note the masterpiece Tra Kieu altar of the late 7th century, with carved scenes telling the story of the Asian epic Ramayana.
