Ta Phin village of Red Dao people - Sapa

Ta Phin village

The road to the Ta Phin village there is a splendid view of the valley on one side and mountains on the other. Under the valley is a water stream winding along green terraced rice fields and in the distance are lines of corn trees.

You'll be mobbed at the entrance to the Ta Phin village by young Dao women in their elaborate regalia with high red headdresses. The women of Ta Phin are nice - some speak English well and can provide some useful insight into Dao culture and offers to take you on a village tour.

Red Dao people living in Ta Phin village still keep strong customs: the use of roots and plants to dye the silk threads in bright yellow or dark orange; harvesting medicinal plants in the jungle in order to make their traditional herbal bath.
