Mai Chau valley

From 600 years ago, Thai people immigrated from Dien Bien down to Mai Chau, they found this place can be ideal for growing rice and settle a new life. They stayed here in the house on stilts in their very well planned village in the middle of green and peaceful rice field. Their life here in Mai Chau still remained many traditions like 100 years ago in the way they cultivate rice, raising fish in the pond, hunting in the forest or building their house.

From popular photo stop on the Thung Khe Pass, you can view the valley from high point with a great panorama view, and if it was during the rice crop, the valley will covered by the carpet of rice, that the colors can be changed from green to yellow upon the period of the crop.

Visiting Mai Chau valley, you can enjoy the opportunity of a home-stay in the traditional Thai stilt-houses. By interacting closely with the local family you stay with, you will gain an insight into their daily lives.
